Trafficking
One of the most threatening phenomena, built on the people’s hope for a decent life in another country is the trafficking in human beings, the expanding pattern of
modern slavery.We do not have much experience in participatory work in the area of trafficking, in regards to working with the victims. The issue is too delicate, the victims are too fragile and hurt, and there is no community involved, but it is the whole society issue. But we have tried to prevent it from happening and have worked in communities and with groups which are common targets. We have worked in rural communities and with institutionalised children, involving all people and especially the children and youth in decision making, in work to improve their life, education and we were striving to create conditions, which will eliminate the need to migrate or take risky decisions. To create an alternative. We have worked to help people realize the uniqueness, value and resources of their communities. We have worked to help people see the possibilities, become creative, realize they have the power to improve their life. We have worked to restore mutual support and care to each other, which used to be very strong before. We are working to bring knowledge, but more to make people curious and keen to learn more. And we are working to make people proud of themselves. We are working on collective versus individual development, but do not underestimate or oppress individual values, we just invite individuals to work together. We strive to bring in the strong and the weak and have all people equal. We are working in a participatory way. Trafficking is based on lack of alternative. It happens because of ignorance, illiteracy, carelessness of family and society. It happens because victims are desperate and do not see another future. It cannot happen if people have knowledge, if they share, care and support each other. And are proud of what they really are. |
