Case study from the community "Vakov" in Debar, Macedonia
Armond Elmazi lives in Debar in the community "Vakov". He completed his elementary education in the primary school "Bratstvo Edinstvo" in Debar and as a result of the very bad financial situation of his family and the lack of interest to continue his studies he stopped his education.

Although very young, he spent his time aimlessly on Debar streets together with his peers, waiting for some legwork just to earn some modest pocket money.
His father left to Italy in order to find employment and in time to get his son there as well in the construction business.

The photo shows Armond Elmazi on his new  "working post"

Successful Large Group Workshop in Gostivar, Macedonia
LGW Gostivar
On 10.03.2007, a successful Large Group Workshop was carried in Gostivar, Macedonia with representatives of the Roma community, 3 Roma NGO's, people from various authorities and institutions, the Mayor and 3 people from the PCD team functioning in Macedonian Red Cross.

Facilitated by Ljupka Petkovska, Head of Social Dept. of MRC, and two more PCD team members for more then 4 hours, the people discussed the life and needs in their community, the results of the Participatory Rapid Appraisal, presented by the local RC branch, and gave their views on the situation.

The needs were prioritized by the community members, though some problems found solutions immediately, such as the Mayor pledge to place "laying policemen" on the street where children often get injured by the cars, due to lack of walksides.

One of the local Roma NGO's together with the institutions are already running qualification courses, and can respond to those needs, vital for employment. Similar is the situation of Roma language classes that can be organized in the schools as curriculum is available. Youth requested lessons on foreign languages and computers, which is likely to be the micro-project supported by the Macedonian RC. Photos here.
